Pregnant Astrid Loch Explains Why She & Kevin Wendt Are Waiting to Learn the Sex of Their Baby
Astrid Loch joined Becca Kufrin and guest co-host Catherine Lowe for this week’s episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour,” during which Astrid discussed the exciting news that she is pregnant and expecting her first child with fiancé Kevin Wendt.
Astrid — whose baby announcement came on May 9 following a long in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey — explained why she and Kevin are waiting to learn the sex of their little one.
“We’re going to wait. We want to be surprised,” said the expectant Bachelor Nation star, whose due date is in November. “From when we met, Kevin always said he wanted to wait to find out the [sex]. I always told him he’s crazy and that we’re not doing that. His brother did that with all three of [his] kids.”
Astrid — who fell in love with Kevin on Season 5 of “Bachelor in Paradise” in 2018 — said that her struggles with infertility helped change her mind.
“It was so much planning, and everything was on a schedule. Nothing was a surprise,” she recalled of the arduous process. “It was like, ‘OK, today, they’re putting a baby in me and in eight days, I’m going to know if it worked or not.’ I feel like this is the one thing we can still be surprised about, so I agreed to waiting to find out.”
Becca and Catherine then asked if Astrid had an “inkling” about what she and Kevin may welcome. “I’m kind of thinking girl but I think it’s because I like all the girl names better than the boy names,” she said with a laugh. “So, I’m just, like, hoping.”
Astrid also noted that she saw signs of Kevin’s features during a recent ultrasound appointment. “The baby looks like Kevin. It has his head!” she said. “So, when I looked at the ultrasound, I kind of saw Kevin, so then it made me think that maybe it’s a boy. But I honestly have no idea.”
When it comes to the couple’s list of potential baby names, Astrid said that she has been sworn to secrecy.
“Kevin won’t even let me tell my mom!” she admitted. “I want to tell everyone everything. He’s like, ‘Don’t even tell your mom. I don’t want to hear if somebody doesn’t like something.’”
