Lauren Bushnell Lane & Husband Chris Share Solid Advice for New Parents: 'Laugh Your Way Through'
Lauren Bushnell Lane and her husband, Chris Lane, reflected on their first weeks with their newborn son, Dutton Walker, in a recent interview with People.
During their chat with the outlet, the Nashville-based couple described their new life looking after a little one.
“We’re both so new to this and learning as we go, but we’re getting the hang of it!” Lauren said, before doling out solid advice for fellow new parents. “You have to laugh your way through. We’re just figuring it out together.”
For his part, Chris emphasized the importance of teamwork in the early days of raising a child.
“We make a good team,” the country singer said of splitting diaper duties with Lauren, whom he says has the “magic touch” — while he joked that he “can’t change them fast enough.”
The pair also opened up about Dutton’s developing personality.
“He’s a little bit stubborn and very sweet. Very alert, loves to look around, and just wants to take everything in,” Lauren said of her baby boy. “But he does not like his arms in the swaddle, and he’s very adamant about it! If you try to put his arms in the swaddle, he wants them out.”
The Bachelor Nation star added, “He wants the freedom to do whatever he wants with his arms. I’m like, ‘OK, so you definitely know what you like and what you don’t!’ which is good. We’re in the sweet cuddly newborn phase.”
Meanwhile, Chris noted, “I’ve learned that he loves, loves, loves to eat.”
The duo — who welcomed Dutton on June 8 — also revealed who they think their son most resembles.
“Lauren seems to think that Dutton has my exact eyes and facial expressions, 100 percent,” Chris mentioned.
“It cracks me up because he already has a very expressive brow. He’ll lift one eyebrow or furrow his brow. And I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, that is Chris/Chris’ dad,’” Lauren said. “And then, he’ll do other things that remind me of my dad. It’s so weird to look at your baby and see your father-in-law and your father! But he definitely has Chris’ eyes and expressions.”
However, Chris said that Dutton has “Lauren’s nose” and “Lauren’s lips and chin.”
“It’s honestly hard to tell,” the first-time father acknowledged. “But just from judging so far, it does seem that he has a mix of both of us in him.”
